The recently designed Digging for Idols Season 1 checklist poster was a fun exercise if oddly conceived. It was always intended to be imaginative in purpose, geared toward devoted listeners. However, once it existed, there seemed to be an obvious alternate application of the concept, also owing to its unconventional concept and a desire to practice with Adobe InDesign.
Here, the “checklist” poster has been reimagined as a 5×8 print document that could serve as a mailer for listeners, be given out at pop culture conventions, or sent to guests along with the second page of the new document, which is a 5×8 thank you card for guests. For guests, both prints could be mailed together easily in a 5×8 envelope along with stickers, while the checklist and stickers alone could go to casual fans. (note: the original bundle of materials that included the checklist poster also included a 5×8 print, but at the time the checklist concept was deemed oversized and as a result the 5×8 was wholly different).
To create it, I started with a fresh InDesign document, 2 pages each 5×8 (one horizontal). From scratch, I used similar backing images, transparencies and logo placement. Then, I squeezed down the checklist to the smallest size appropriate to the new space. While the print will be small, I feel it’s still a more traditional approach than the original poster. For the “Thank you” card, I realigned the backing image, added logos, then wrote a small blurb of profuse thanks. I left a lower third of the card blank with an area denoting where physical notes/signatures would be written.
Below are the original project designs followed by the additional, reimagined designs.
